INSET

November, 1994 - October, 1995
Would it not be useful to have the computer find in the master word list all
words containing any given sequence of letters? INSET (in-set) does exactly
this. It generates lists of "valid" words with all possible prefixes and
suffixes. For aspiring Scrabble (tm) wizards, this helps determine all con-
necting and add-on words to a word already on the game board. There is at
least one book on the market that attempts this same goal, costing about $6.
To use INSET, just type: INSET xxxxxxx, where xxxxxxx is the letter set that
all possible prefixes and suffixes will be connected to. The file xxxxxxx.set
will contain all "valid" words containing xxxxxxx.
As an example, typing INSET WORK generates the file WORK.SET, which lists all
172 words containing the sequence WORK, including artWORK, workLOAD, and
unWORKed, among many others.
INSET may be directed to search a different file from the standard WORD.LST.
To use this option, type INSET xxxxxx filename.zzz, where xxxxxx is the
letter set and filename.zzz is the name of the file to be searched. This per-
mits the LONGWORD.LST to be used if desired.
The entire WORDY package still costs only $2.00 (cheap!) to register - a real
bargain in these days of inflated shareware registration fees, not to mention
highly overpriced commercial software.
